The process of creating VFX generally involves the following steps:
During pre-production, the VFX team collaborates closely with the director, cinematographer, and other essential stakeholders to comprehend the project's creative vision and technical needs. They meticulously plan and storyboard the VFX shots to ensure smooth integration with the live-action footage. Additionally, they develop concept art and animatics to aid in visualizing the final product.
Production: When filming, the VFX team collects crucial information such as camera and object movement, lighting, and other relevant details. This information is utilized to generate a digital environment in which the VFX will be incorporated.
Post-production: After filming, the VFX team begins to create the digital assets and effects that will be added to the footage. This may include creating 3D models, digital matte paintings, and compositing various elements to create a cohesive final image. This involves several stages, including:
a. Rotoscoping: The process of tracing around the subject in each frame to create a matte or mask that separates it from the background.
b. Tracking: The process of analyzing the camera's movement and other objects in the scene so that the VFX elements can be added in the correct position and perspective.
c. Compositing: It is the process of combining the live-action footage with the VFX elements to create the final shot.
4. After the VFX shots are finished, they are handed over to the editorial team for incorporation into the final edit of the movie or TV series.
In essence, the process of VFX entails both artistic and technical expertise to produce striking visuals that elevate the narrative of a movie. It mandates a group of competent specialists collaborating harmoniously to actualize the director's creative vision.
The process of creating VFX is intricate and demands exceptional technical skills and creativity. Nevertheless, its successful execution can elevate the visual appeal and narrative of a movie to the next level.
